In the framework of the UIC Statutory Meetings held in St Petersburg last week, Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, UIC Director General, and Mr Dominique Paget, Chairman of the International Railway Sports Association (USIC), presented the 2015 sports trophies to the three USIC sports members, as announced in Rome during the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between both organisations.
This sports ranking rewards the members of USIC who have achieved the best results during the 2014/2015 season.

  • 3rd: Germany represented by Jürgen Happich (President of Verband Deutscher Eisenbahner - Sportvereine), Germany
  • 2nd: Russia represented by Mr Artem Dorozhkin on behalf of Mr Ilya Vdovin (President of Russian Lokomotiv Athletic Association), Russia
  • 1st: Bulgaria represented by Ognyan Rajdavichki (President of Railwayman Club), Bulgaria

This ceremony was also the opportunity to announce that two 2017 USIC sports challenges will have a charitable aim for the first time in this cooperation between UIC and USIC.

Although USIC has a few technical details to address, these challenges should concern bowling in Bulgaria and badminton in Switzerland.
These events will be also opened to other participants, partners and sponsors. Sponsors will be invited to make donations in aid of a humanitarian cause. Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux also suggested organising a World Chess Challenge in December 2017 at UIC Headquarters.

More information on this project will be published in a forthcoming issue of UIC eNews.
