Thanks to many years of experience and good cooperation of the partners involved, in August of this year the largest volume of grain cargo in history was transported through the infrastructure of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz). Also in September, as the grain threshing and transportation season continues, the LDz subsidiary SIA “LDZ CARGO” responsible for transportation forecasts intensive work and significant cargo volumes.

In August, SIA LDZ CARGO transported 4,700 wagons or 327,540 tons of grain of local origin, which is 26% more than in August 2019. Most cargo is delivered to ports - 290 420 tons. In August, a total of 467,830 tons of grain were transported by rail.

The historical record of grain transportation has been achieved thanks to the synchronised loading and unloading process, timely flow of information between the involved partners, as well as the experience gained over several years.
Māris Kleinbergs, Chairman of the Board of LDz: communication and high professionalism. In this grain season, when timely transportation is important, we have convincingly proved that the railway is one of the most convenient, high-quality and cost-effective ways of grain transportation. "

Although August was the most intensive month of grain transportation this year, threshing works will continue in September, and according to the forecasts of SIA “LDZ CARGO”, 3,500 wagons with grain could be transported this month. In the coming months, the number will vary from an average of 1,000 to 2,000 cereal wagons transported per month.

In total, in the eight months of this year, 2.27 million tons of grain have been transported through the LDz infrastructure, which is 36,290 tons more than in the eight months of 2019. This amount has been reached this year thanks to the transportation of grain of local origin.
