In order to strengthen professional skills and mutual cooperation in crisis situations, on Thursday 24 September SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš, together with the state operational services, will organise complex civil protection and disaster management exercises in Rēzekne, during which it will simulate an oil fire and its elimination.

The training will take place at the SIA “LDZ ritošā sastāva serviss” Rēzekne workshop and, according to the plan, dangerous goods will leak from the tank, while a fire will break out at the locomotive depot. LDz specialists in cooperation with the State Fire and Rescue Service, Rezekne Cooperation Area Civil Protection Commission, State Environmental Service and State Police will have the task of locating the leakage of hazardous substances from the tank, locating and eliminating the fire, as well as preventing ecological threats to the environment.

The aim of the training is to test the readiness of the services involved in the civil protection system for coordinated action in disaster relief, as well as to strengthen cooperation in disaster management on the public railway infrastructure.

Civil protection exercises with the involvement of state operational services are organised by LDz four times a year.
