The second part of the UIC Talent & Expertise Development Platform (TEDP) plenary meeting was held successfully online on 10 December with some 40 participants from more than 20 countries.

Updates on the following activities were presented:

  • Permanent observatory on future work and training: this activity is a follow-up to the Future Work and Training working group established in 2018.
  • WCRT 2021: Unite, Inspire, Connect. The sixth edition of the UIC World Congress on Training, Talent and Development (WCRT) will be held at the Russian University of Transport in Moscow on 22-24 September 2021. The international TrainRail Hackaton competition, the theme of which is “How can railways be resilient in the face of pandemics?” will take place on 20-21 September and the results and awards ceremony will be held during the Congress. Regional TrainRail Hackaton competitions will be held from April to July 2021.

WCRT 2021 is currently scheduled to be held both on and offline. The deadline for submission of abstracts has been postponed to 25 January 2021. To view the themes and topics, please visit https://wcrt.uic.org/programme. Partnership and sponsorships packages will be available soon.

The update on the TEDP’s ongoing activities was followed by a presentation of new, externally-funded activities. Besides ongoing TEDP-funded activities, the TEDP is also involved in three new EU-funded projects, either as partner or coordinator:

  • Shift2Rail Human Capital
  • WE TRANSFORM project, H2020 call MG-2-14-2020: The effects of automation on the transport labour force, future working conditions and skills requirements
  • REPAIR (Recognising Emerging Project Anticipating Industry Renewal), Erasmus and cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices and strategic partnerships for vocational education and training

The plenary session concluded with a second round table discussion on “Current situation at training centres. Covid-19 and learning; what has changed? Challenges and opportunities”.

The Talent & Expertise Development Platform’s spring 2021 meeting is scheduled to be held on 8 April, most likely online.
