TRESPAD 2024 videos released to celebrate the 3rd edition of TRESPAD

The 3rd edition of TRESPAD (Trespass Awareness Day) is to be launched on 5 June 2024.

Trespassing and suicide incidents on or near railway tracks affect the entire rail industry, with an adverse impact on safety, performance, reputation, costs and efficiency. This issue affects all areas of the sector, as well as society as a whole and is therefore something that we must tackle together.

Trespass Awareness Day (TRESPAD) is UIC’s second global initiative to raise awareness of the risks at and around railway tracks and property to prevent accidents, incidents, and casualties.

The Trespass and Suicide Prevention Conference is launching the third “TRESPAD” campaign, aiming to share the key activities that current programmes are undertaking with rail industry partners. Through this conference the aim is to identify what already exists, what else is needed, what individual organisations can do to help prevent trespass and suicides and how we can work much closer together on these issues.

As part of this event, UIC is pleased to publish the first of three videos from INFRABEL, an active partner of ILCAD and TRESPAD in Belgium.

The 2024 TRESPAD and ILCAD campaigns target “vulnerable users” with the slogan “Beware of trains. Life can change in a split second”.

At the beginning of 2024, INFRABEL the Belgian, infrastructure manager, launched an educational programme dedicated to rail safety for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, which consists of two educational videos and a testimonial video in sign language.

Lucas was a young deaf man who lost his life in a collision with a train in Belgium on 4 August 2022. His mother Valérie has given a testimony that is available in French and in sign language, with French, English, or Spanish subtitles.

The next two videos will be published in future e-news articles.

The video has been shared with around 50 countries, who are all taking part in the campaign around the world. It has now also been translated into several other languages.
In addition to the videos, several posters have been prepared in various different languages.

UIC is also delighted to invite you to the conferences to launch the 3rd edition of TreSPAD on 5 June and the 16th edition of ILCAD on 6 June, followed by technical and social visits on 7 June 2024 at the kind invitation of the Argentinian Transport Safety Board (Junta de Seguridad en el Transporte (JST)).
