As part of the lead-up to COP26 in Glasgow, UNFCCC is holding a series of regional week- long events to focus on challenges and projects in each region. UIC will participate in Africa Climate Week with an online side event on 28 September from 6 to 8pm EAT/GMT+3. This event, part of the official programme for Africa Climate Week, offers an opportunity to highlight the critical role of rail and public transport in an increasingly urbanised sustainable future for Africa. During the two-hour session, the panel will debate how rail and public transport, as the greenest form of high-volume transport, has the ability to help transform cities. UIC Africa will share its newly adopted pledge and ten-part initiative for activities to drive sustainability and connectivity in Africa. Coordinated and moderated by UIC Africa, representatives from the African Union (AUC-IEC), UNFCCC high-level champions, UN Habitat and UITP, together with African transport authorities and operators, will share their thoughts, experiences and plans during the webinar, which will include a panel discussion.
