UIC welcomes the Connecting Europe Express campaign and is pleased to be part of this symbolic action set up by the European Commission on the occasion of the European Year of Rail.

In this regard, François Davenne, UIC Director General, highlighted: “The running of this train, which will start in Lisbon and end in Paris, linking 26 countries and 40 European cities in just 36 days, is a strong and concrete signal of the capacity of railways to cooperate.”

He added: “In conjunction and in synergy with the CER, the UIC provides support to this project, and will be pleased to provide technical insight and solutions, together with its Members, on the key priority topics for railways in Europe, in connection with the objectives of the EU Green Deal: ticketing, digitalisation and sustainability”.

And: “Furthermore, this train will raise awareness and facilitate businesses, public authorities and transport users of all ages (and among them the young generation), to better appreciate the added value that the railways, as the backbone of the European mobility network, can contribute to the green economy. This challenge will be met by the whole railway sector working closely together”.
