On 5 and 6 June 2014 the meeting of the Commuter and Regional Trains Systems work group took place at the offices of RENFE near Puerta de Atocha Station in Madrid. This was the second meeting of this group in 2014.

UIC was represented by the Director of the Passenger Department, Mr Ignacio Barrón, and Mr Luis Casado and Mr Marc Guigon, Senior Advisors. The meeting was chaired by Bartlomiej Buczek (SKM- PKP), Chairman of the Group.

The meeting went through different topics related to the activities of Commuter and Regional Train Services. All the representatives explained how ticketing worked in their companies and the influence of new technologies in the development of this matter. There was a presentation of the UIC handbook and the members of the group that were present made contributions and suggestions in order to get a useful tool for all the companies. Apart from that, there was a discussion about the work that needs to be undertaken in order to achieve the results that were planned for this group and how to carry them out.

On the second day, the members of the group visited the RENFE Traffic Control Centre in Madrid Puerta de Atocha Station, and after a short trip on a commuter train, they visited the ADIF Traffic Control Centre in Chamartín Station. In these two centres RENFE and ADIF staff explained to them how the railway traffic in the region of Madrid was managed.

The next meeting of the group will be organized by BLS in Bern, on 28 and 29 October.
