A delegation from Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU: University of Transport) came to Europe on a study trip and visited UIC on 23 September 2016. BJTU is a UIC member.
BJTU was represented by Mr SUN Shouguang, Vice-President of BJTU, Mr WANG Xi, School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering, Prof. LI Qiang, Dean of the Department of the Railway Vehicle Engineering School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering and other representatives.
UIC was represented by Mr Iñaki Barrón, Director of the Passenger and High Speed Department of UIC, Mr Marc Antoni, Director of System Department, Mr Gianfranco Cau, Senior Advisor and Marc Guigon, Senior Advisor Passenger Transport at UIC.
The Chinese delegation was particularly interested in understanding the fields of scientific and technical cooperation with UIC and their applications in passenger related activities.
The meeting offered the opportunity to disseminate the UIC policy and strategy on standardisation, demonstrating the need to be professionally associated with railway operating companies defining the requirements necessary to the production of the railway service.
A common item that was discussed was rolling stock running gear and in particular the fatigue characteristic of bogie frames where hints for further investigations were discussed.
An interesting analysis was made of the applications of the existing not normative international and regional documents. A contribution to update some UIC leaflets from the Beijing Jiaotong University staff is under discussion and a suitable work plan to discuss it at the next opportunity is being planned.
The cooperation between BJTU and UIC, aims to boost student exchange and participation in both academic activities and technical projects with one of the oldest Chinese engineering universities.
