The EU’s Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, will address global rail transport leaders at the 8th International Railway Summit, taking place in New Delhi, India from 20 to 22 November 2019.

Reflecting on the past five years of her tenure, Ms Bulc will deliver a keynote speech entitled ‘Rail as the backbone of an integrated multimodal transport system’ on the morning of 21 November 2019.

International Railway Summit (IRS) is a high-level meeting of governments, rail operators, solution providers and other key stakeholders. UIC has actively participated in IRS in Europe and Asia since 2013 and has been its Supporting Partner since 2016.

The New Delhi Summit, held in India for the first time, will debate ‘How can rail transport best keep pace with rapid population growth?’ and will be chaired by Christian Chavanel, UIC’s Director of Rail System. UIC’s Director General François Davenne will provide a video presentation on the next generation of transport planning.

The event features:

  • A full conference programme delivered by thought leaders
  • Bespoke one-to-one meetings with technical experts
  • High-level networking over coffee, lunches, dinners, and site visits

Speakers include senior representatives from the Railway Ministry of India, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, EU Agency for Railways (ERA), World Bank, European Investment Bank (EIB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), French National Railways (SNCF), German Railways (DB), High Speed Rail Corporation of India, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Keolis, Shift2Rail, Association of the European Rail Industry (UNIFE), Alstom, Siemens, Bombardier Transportation and the EU standard body CEN-CENELEC.

Influential stakeholders and technical pioneers will debate how the rail family can meet the challenge of ever-increasing demand, including impacts on safety, the value of high-speed rail, pressure on capacity, passenger experience, and attracting public and private investment.

UIC member organisations are eligible for free VIP passes, subject to conditions and availability.
