Latvia: LatRailNet will be responsible for determining rail infrastructure charges and allocating rail infrastructure capacity

Since 1 January 2011 LatRailNet, an independent subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz), has been in charge of allocating rail infrastructure capacity and determining rail infrastructure charges.

The new company – Joint Stock Company LatRailNet – was founded in accordance with the amendments of the Railway Law of the Republic of Latvia. 100% of the shares belong to State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš.

As well as determining rail infrastructure charges and allocating rail infrastructure capacity, the new company will decide on the allocation of train paths to carriers.

Mr Ainis Sturmanis has been appointed Chairman of the Board of LatRailNet. Until 22 December 2010 he was Chairman of the Board of LDz Infrastruktūra Ltd., a subsidiary of LDz.

Latvijas dzelzceļš Group consists of the holding company State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš and five subsidiaries: Joint Stock Company LatRailNet (which allocates rail infrastructure capacity and determines rail infrastructure charges), LDz Cargo Ltd. (freight operator), LDz Infrastruktūra Ltd. (infrastructure construction and maintenance company), LDz Ritošā sastāva serviss Ltd. (rolling stock repairs and maintenance company) and LDz Apsardze Ltd. (security company).
