Inauguration of the new high speed rail line between Tashkent and Samarkand on 30 August 2011

  • High-Speed

On the occasion of the inauguration of the new high speed rail line between Tashkent and Samarkand on 30 August 2011, UIC would like to express, on behalf of the international community of railways, its greetings and wishes of success to all the members of Uzbek Railways for its future operations.

UIC would like to highlight the speed with which the line has been upgraded with modern signalling systems, rail infrastructure and stations. Today, Uzbek Railways has joined the current restricted club of countries that have chosen high speed rail solutions. This 344-kilometre line will link two essential economic areas of Uzbek society in 2 hours and will also play a significant role in the network and development of Central Asia. More significantly, this high speed line will be the first high speed line in the region and will turn the spotlight on Uzbekistan’s most recent developments.

UIC expresses its wish to remain alongside Uzbek Railways to accompany the development of its high speed network, as well as its freight and standard line network, facing new challenges and investments*.
