Model of Series E5 Shinkansen trainset inaugurated at UIC Headquarters
A model of the Japanese Series E5 Shinkansen high-speed trainset was installed in the lobby of UIC Headquarters in Paris and inaugurated in the presence of Mr Masaki Ogata, Vice Chairman of East Japan Railway Company (JR-East), Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, UIC Director General, Mr Yosuke Mizukami, Director of the Paris Office of Japan Railways and a delegation from JR East as well as members of UIC Paris Headquarters.
The purpose of installing this model is to internationally launch the promotion of the UIC HIGHSPEED Tokyo 2015, the 9th UIC World Congress on High Speed Rail organised in cooperation with East Japan Railway Company and scheduled to take place from 7 – 10 July 2015 in Japan (Tokyo International Forum). This UIC world congress will follow the successful 8th edition of UIC HIGHSPEED held in July 2012 in Philadelphia, USA, attended by over 1,000 participants from all continents.
The main theme of UIC HIGHSPEED Tokyo 2015 is “Celebrate the Past, Design the Future”. It coincides with the celebration in 2014 by Japanese Railways of 50 years since the introduction of High Speed Rail, the Shinkansen trainsets in 1964 in Japan and half a century of safe, effective and successful commercial operation of several generations of Shinkansen high-speed trains.
High-Speed train operations were then introduced 1981 in Europe with TGV and continuously expanded.
More than 1,000 participants are expected at UIC HIGHSPEED in Tokyo, among them policy makers, authorities, the railway industry, railway companies, research institutes, universities, etc., to review the past half century and to view the future half century of high speed rail worldwide.
UIC HIGHPEED Tokyo 2015 will feature:
- The 9th world congress with a programme of plenary and parallel sessions
- The UIC HIGHSPEED trade exhibition open to all actors of high speed rail development and operations, from 7 – 9 July 2015
