At the invitation of CFR (Romanian Infrastructure Operator), the annual meeting of the Statistics Experts within the OSJD’s Commission for Transport Policy and Strategic Development took place from 11 – 14 September 2018 in Busteni, Romania.

The meeting was chaired by Shukhrat Kayumkhodjaev (Chairman of the Commission) and was attended by 25 delegates from 12 countries: the heads of Economics or Statistics representing both ministries and national railway companies. On behalf of CFR, Mr Jean Nicolaos (Director of International Relations) addressed a welcome speech.

The meeting addressed the most relevant issues relating to the edition of the annual Bulletin with statistical data on railway transport for 2017 and key performance indicators on 13 international railway corridors of OSJD. In addition, the attention was paid to both revised tables 41 (train movements), 42 (gross hauled tonne-kilometres) and 43 (rolling stock movements) and recast of OSJD Code 305-1 Glossary – the first 100 terms.

In order to promote cooperation between both OSJD and UIC, Roman Štěrba, the chairman of the UIC Statistics group, presented information on the latest developments within the group. In addition, he presented the current issues of the Synopsis with the provisional results of statistics. The participants took the information into consideration and discussed the possibility of more comprehensive harmonisation of collected railway statistics in the future.
