During the 2019 plenary session of the Inland Transport Committee held today in Geneva, and to which Mr François Davenne, UIC Deputy Director General was invited to give a speech, UIC advocated a seamless transport network, that would be more and more efficient and less carbon-intensive.

To provide the expected level of service the railway system must become more intelligent in using better its native network advantages (predictability, safety, control, resilience…). It is only if the capacity of the rail system and its interconnecting capabilities achieves a quantum leap that the SDGs objectives will be met through intelligent multimodality.

UIC fosters a digital approach through its digital platform and looks for a hybrid approach between telecommunications and rail signalling.

During his speech, Mr François Davenne advocated the definition of three key processes that will facilitate the development of the definition of sound interfaces and system management capabilities: Network Productivity, Safety/Security and Services to the end-user.
