You will no doubt recall that the UIC Rail System Department organised a second UIC Workshop on Masonry Arch Bridges in autumn 2018 in Bristol at the initiative of the PoSE group. The workshop showcased the results from UIC Masonry Arch Bridges projects from 2004 to 2015, with a particular emphasis on issues relating to serviceability assessment, determination of permissible load and lifetime expectancy issues. The relevant information is contained in IRS 70778-3, published in March 2018.

A comprehensive presentation of the valuable knowledge and research results from the project was provided at the workshop by six highly experienced experts: Dr Adrienn Tomor, Dr William Harvey, Dr Niamh Gibbons, Dr Zoltán Orbán, Dr José Antonio Martín-Caro and Professor Matthew Gilbert.

Having worked extensively with a production company to edit and optimise the footage from the event, we are proud to present a complete set of videos from the Masonry Arch Bridges workshop.

These videos capture all of the sessions from the Bristol workshop, including the presentations given and videos shown. They will enable both workshop participants and interested parties to revisit each of the topics presented and to refresh their knowledge of the behaviour of masonry arch bridges.

The set of videos contains 17 sessions, each between 15 and 45 minutes long. The videos, in their entirety, offer seven hours and 35 minutes of interesting and rare material.

You will find the videos on the UIC website under the following link:

Special thanks go to Lauren Benoit, formerly of the UIC Communications department, who offered valuable advice throughout the project and extensive support during the complex process of editing and revision.

Please note that the third UIC Masonry Arch Bridges Workshop will be held on 17 and 18 October 2019 at the University of Pécs (Hungary). Information and registration:
