On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Semmelweis University, a strategic cooperation agreement was signed by Mr Róbert Homolya, President-Director General of MAV Co. and Dr Béla Merkely, Rector of Semmelweis University on 7 November 2019.

Following the signature of the agreement, a Taurus locomotive decorated with a vinyl wrap labelled “Semmelweis 250” was inaugurated.

The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen the relationship between MAV and Semmelweis University by raising health awareness of the customers and employees of MAV Co. and MAV-START Co. With the comprehensive and high-level expertise in medical and health sciences, the University provides support, among other things, to develop the health promotion programme of Hungarian State Railways.

In addition, a national public health screening programme will also be developed jointly as a result of which the introduction of a mobile screening railway coach is foreseen.

The vinyl wrapped locomotive with the motto “Semmelweis University - 250 years of excellence in medical education, research and innovation and healthcare” will be operated on the Budapest-Hegyeshalom-Vienna, Budapest-Sopron, Budapest-Szombathely and Budapest–Békéscsaba-Lőkösháza routes.
