Alexey Shilo, the Deputy Managing Director of Russian Railways and the head of the Centre for Corporate Transport Services, and Marcus Fischer, a member of the CargoBeamer AG Board, have signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two companies.

The signing took place in Sochi in Southern Russia on 29 October 2019 at the international railway forum PRO//Movement.1520.

The memorandum envisages the joint development of services in the field of freight rail transport between Europe and China with transit shipments through the territory of the Russian Federation and the formation of new logistics products in Russia using CargoBeamer technology.

CargoBeamer’s technology is designed for piggybacking – carrying trailers or semi-trailers on a train or flatcar, which enables high-speed loading and unloading, as well as the secure rail transport of road freight trailers through the use of special wagon platforms and transshipment equipment.

The parties intend to jointly identify railway stations suitable for the use of the technology, to certify CargoBeamer’s wagons for operation on the Russian railway network, and to develop an optimal list of services provided for Europe-China routes.

Piggyback transport will not only increase the volume of rail transport, but also take the load off the roads and reduce the impact of heavy vehicles on road infrastructure and the environment.
