UIC Standardisation Day – 13 October 2026

UIC is pleased to invite you to UIC Standardisation Day, which will take place both at UIC headquarters and online on 13 October 2026. Following the UIC Excellence in Railways Publications Award Ceremony, a standardisation workshop will be hosted, bringing together UIC members and UIC colleagues to share the latest information on UIC standardisation.

The agenda is as follows:

09:30-1130: UIC Standardisation Platform (SP) Plenary Meeting
12:00-13:00: UIC Excellence in Railways Publications Award Ceremony
13:00-14:00: Networking lunch
14:15-15:45: Standardisation Workshop (with a possible extension until 16:00)

The UIC Standardisation Strategy 2030, approved by the UIC General Assembly in December 2024, establishes four strategic pillars to strengthen UIC’s position as an international standardisation body for the railway sector. From these pillars, UIC has launched a series of practical initiatives to translate the Strategy into concrete actions.
Through collaborative work with UIC members, the aim is to not only to improve standardisation processes but also to create greater value for the global railway community.

One such initiative is the introduction of a clear typology and a new categorisation of UIC International Railway Solutions (IRS). Among the seven categories, the newly introduced Legacy Technology Document category will play a key role in accelerating the transition from existing leaflets to the IRS framework.

The upcoming workshop will present the achievements from the first year of the Strategy’s implementation.

The programme will include:
1. Key elements of the Strategy
2. An explanation of the new Legacy Technology Document category
3. A guide to Legacy Technology Documents in the UIC Publication Portal – how to identify and use them
4. A Q&A and quiz

Although the revision of the UIC Standardisation Guidelines, incorporating the new procedures introduced by the Strategy, is currently in progress within the Standardisation Platform, the new Legacy Technology Document category will become operational in the UIC Publication Portal from September 2026. By the time you attend UIC Standardisation Day, you will already be able to explore this new category in the Publication Portal. During the workshop, speakers will explain the rationale behind Legacy Technology Documents, highlight their value, and demonstrate how the documents will continue to support railway operations.

The morning Standardisation Platform Plenary Meeting will focus on the revision of the UIC Standardisation Guidelines and will be exclusively open to registered SP members. If you are not yet registered as a SP member, please do so as soon as possible via the UIC Extranet to gain access to the meeting.

Standardisation can only succeed through collaboration – experts from UIC member companies and UIC Headquarters colleagues must work with a shared vision to develop high-quality international standardisation documents that truly serve the railway community. In this spirit, the UIC Publications Award Ceremony, networking lunch, and Standardisation Workshop are open to both UIC members and UIC colleagues.
