The InterRail pass, heavily associated with the idea of international mobility and freedom of young travellers, was established at UIC in 1972 to mark the association’s 50th anniversary. The InterRail pass has considerably evolved in format to adapt to new market circumstances, but it still exists today and is run in partnership between UIC and the Council of Europe (InterRail revenue finances a European fund for the mobility of young travellers). The EurailPass and EuroDomino, both commercial products for passengers, were also born of initiatives taken by UIC commercial bodies.
