New projects to be launched soon: Predictive maintenance and Eco-energy

UIC is preparing to launch two new opt-in projects: Predictive maintenance on OCL and substations and Eco-energy, following kick-off meetings with members in May.

The first project, Predictive maintenance, aims to provide guidelines on predictive maintenance for OCL and substations. The key elements of the project will cover the following:

  • Identification of types of warning signs (symptoms) found in OCL and substations leading to faults/defects.
  • Identification of solutions/measures corresponding to the signs identified, and the amount of time before possible defects appear.
  • Study of possible technologies to be applied (available on the market).
  • Case studies on the technology adopted in different countries.

Experts from Network Rail, SNCF Reseau, Infrabel, Trafikverket, RFI, ADIF and SZCZ will participate in this project.

The second project, Eco-energy, consists of studying ways to reduce energy consumption and costs by using new technologies or changing current practices. The outcome of this study is expected to provide benefits for the following:

  • Optimisation of costs for grid connection
  • Enhanced reliability, availability, maintainability and safety on the energy supply network
  • Improved capacity and energy savings

This project is made up of experts from Infrabel, RFI and ADIF.
