On Tuesday 28 September, Mr Wolfgang Küpper was re-elected for a three-year term of office as head of the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF).
The OTIF General Assembly is currently being held in a hybrid format in Berne, Switzerland, and will run until 29 September.
After examining the reports of the ad hoc Committee on Cooperation and the Working Group of Legal Experts, the representatives of OTIF’s Member States elected the Secretary General of the Organisation in the afternoon. Following the vote, which took place in accordance with the defined procedure, Mr Küpper was re-elected.
A lawyer with 30 years’ professional experience in international railway policy, Mr Küpper served a first term of almost three years as head of the OTIF Secretariat (April 2019 – December 2021). This term of office was punctuated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
During this second term of office, one of Mr Küpper’s tasks will be to take charge of a major renovation of OTIF’s headquarters. In addition, he will continue to define and implement a long-term strategy for the Organisation, which will be based on sustainable development, safety and the further harmonisation of railway law.
UIC congratulates Mr Küpper on his re-election and looks forward to continued collaboration with OTIF.
