The UIC Passenger Department has just launched GEOHSR (Guidelines on Operational Efficiency for New and Existing High-Speed Lines), a project aimed at helping various decision-makers to understand and evaluate the operational efficiency of existing, planned and new high-speed railways.

The project is based on three key aspects: scientific knowledge, members’ best practice, and state-of-the-art methods of assessment, and will result in practical and simple guidelines designed for broad use.

The project is being driven by DB, NS, RZD and Euskotren. UIC has also appointed IEC International, a consulting company working in the domains of macroeconomics and rail transport domains with new technological solutions such as modelling and predictive algorithms. A workshop for discussion of such topics will be organised at the beginning of next year.

The final guidelines and presentation of the modelling tool are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.
