On 5 and 6 December, UIC’s Security division attended the Security Research Event in Brussels on “Making Europe a safer place: demonstrating the impact of EU-funded security research”. The two-day conference and exhibition was organised by the European Commission and brought together security stakeholders from all over Europe and beyond. More than 1,000 security professionals visited the Security Research Event this year.

The SHERPA (Shared and coHerent European Railway Protection Approach) project was represented with a stand, at which the UIC Security team, together with representatives from SNCF, SNCB and PKP, talked to visitors about the project and security in the railways and public transport. The visitors - amongst them representatives from DG Home, police authorities and industry - showed great interest in the project, which began in November 2018, and confirmed that they are looking forward to the results. The event also provided an opportunity to present the Rail Security Hub, a web platform developed by the UIC Security division to provide rail security stakeholders with practical solutions and recommendations for better security at railway stations and on trains and infrastructure.
