The World Congress on Railway Research is the world’s foremost international forum for the promotion, development and exchange of the latest innovations in the global rail industry. WCRR 2013 will see the exchange of best practice between researchers, manufacturers and operators from across the global rail industry. In addition it will be an ideal opportunity for networking.
The conference will take place in Sydney, Australia, a world renowned tourist and business destination. By combining the conference with the flagship Australasian rail conference and exhibition AusRAIL PLUS, the joint event will create the biggest ever rail conference- /exhibition hosted in the region.
UIC is – along with a number of UIC members, namely AAR (USA), Deutsche Bahn (Germany), FS / trenitalia (Italy), RSSB (U.K), RTRI (Japan) and SNCF (France) – involved in the organisation of this prestigious event, which in the press has recently also been mentioned as “the Olympic Games of Rail Research”. The organisation of this 10th WCRR is led by the three Australian railway organisations RAIL-CRC, RISSB and ARA.
The conference theme chosen by the organisers for this 10th edition of the WCRR is “Keeping ahead of the curve through the sharing of knowledge”. During a recent three-day “Marathon meeting”, the Executive Committee went through 538 abstracts and their ratings delivered by the sectors’ experts, grouping them among the session themes and selecting roughly 200 of the best for further development into full presentations and well over 200 to be presented as full size scientific posters and explained by their authors.
The programme is still under development but there will be an opening and closing session, a limited number of plenary meetings with high-level speakers and a number of scientific sessions covering the following areas of rail research and innovation: Signalling, Communications and Operations, Economics/Policy, Environment, Economics/Policy, Safety, Performance and Capacity, Rolling Stock, System and Information and finally Infrastructure and Electrical (for which the highest number of abstracts was sent in: 133. Performance and Capacity has received 84 abstracts). Again these themes have been divided into many sub-themes, closely describing the content of the actual session.
One of the plenary meetings will be held together with the AusRail event. During this common plenary three of the highest ranking scientific papers will be presented on topics which will be of great relevance to both the AusRail as well as the WCRR audiences.
The actual detailed programme is under development and will be published and available shortly as a brochure. Besides this scientific programme, a very attractive partner programme has been developed and technical visits will also be offered. UIC eNews will inform you about this in due time.
At the initiative of UIC, an exclusive deal has been signed with Emirates Airlines which will give participants of WCRR a considerable reduction on their air tickets from any global destination to and from Sydney. You will find a special code for this reduction in air prices when you register online on the WCRR website.
