In order to provide comfortable conditions at railway transport facilities in the region around the Winter Olympic Games, the Directorate of Railway Stations, a branch of Russian Railways, has installed integrated information, automation and communication systems at the station complexes in Sochi, Khosta, Adler, Olympic Park, Esto-Sadok and Krasnaya Polyana.

These systems are the key element of the “smart station”.

The measures are being put in place with the aim of automating life support management subsystems at the stations.

The Directorate is also introducing innovative energy-saving solar energy systems. In 2014, at the Olympic Park and Khosta stations, solar module systems will be introduced (1,028 modules with a rated capacity of 130 kW and 720 modules rated at 75.6 kW), while Adler station will be equipped with a system of helio-collectors (320 modules rated at 33.6 kW).

These solar energy systems will reduce costs at the three stations in the Olympic zone to 1.5 million roubles a year.
