Progress in the preparation of “UIC nextstation 2019”, the 7th International Conference on Railway Stations to be held from 11 – 13 November 2019 in Tehran, Iran

The 7th International conference on railway stations “UIC nextstation 2019”, co-organised by UIC and Iranian Railways RAI will take place in Tehran from 11 – 13 November 2019.

This kind of UIC international conference is the opportunity every two years to exchange on best practices, to learn more about innovations, to network with other railway representatives coming from the world of mobility.

This international conference, which will welcome high level personalities from the political and economic world, international institutions, experts, researchers, students, from Iran, the Middle-East as well as from other parts of the world, will be the occasion to exchange on several key subjects such as Station management and station financing, Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, Mobility, Accessibility and Interconnectivity, Services & Commercial, Interaction between stations and cities, Station Design, Safety & Security, Smart Technology. Two round tables will be an opportunity to discuss “Rail based city” and “Generating added value for cities: main challenges”.

In addition to the conference, participants will have the possibility to discover the railway station of Esfahan on 13 November.

On 19 February, Marc Guigon, UIC Director of Passenger Department and Marie Plaud-Lombard, UIC Director of Communications, Mr Abbas Nazari, Director General for International Affairs at Iranian Railways RAI and his team met in Tehran in order to make progress on the organisation of this event and in order to make it a success. Patronage from international and national organisations will be confirmed in the near future.

A dedicated website of the conference will open at the beginning of March, with all practical information, regularly updated speaker programme, as well as an online registration system. Companies interested in sponsoring the event or exhibiting their products, solutions, know-how, will also find package proposals online.

During this week, Marc Guigon met Mr Kazemi Manesh, Director General of Planning and supervising Passenger Services Department of RAI. Marc Guigon understood their expectations including possible cooperation concerning ticket distribution, tourist trains, commuter and regional trains, railway stations among other topics.

The ranking of the quality of the trains was also discussed.
