Kazakhstan: Almaty-Tashkent high speed passenger service launched

Deputy Chairman of Uzbekiston Temir Yullari Radzhapov Mansur Kuchkarovich, General Director of Uzbek rail passenger operator Uzjeldorpass Z. Nurmukhamedov, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan V. Turekhanov, and the head of representative office of KTZ in the Central Asian region N. Kenzhebekov, officially launched the first high-speed transport services between Almaty and Tashkent.

Representatives of the railway company of Uzbekistan said that the international service between Almaty and Tashkent is one of the most promising.

“The Tulpar-Talgo train that will run on this route has more than 400 seats. It will link the major tourist centres of Almaty and Tashkent. Our citizens are interested in visiting the Alpine resorts of large local metropolises. Tourists are travelling from Kazakhstan to see our historic towns of Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva,” said the head of Department of Uzjeldorpass B. Egamberdiev.

Currently, the train will operate twice a week. In the future, the representatives of the passenger company of Uzbekistan said that the frequency will increase.
The train departs from Almaty on Mondays and Saturdays, from Tashkent on Tuesdays and Sundays, primeminister.kz website informs. The travel time is about 16 hours and 30 minutes. The stations are: Otar, Chu, Taraz, Shymkent, Saryagash and Tashkent.
