The CBRNe4rail project held its first progress meeting on 21–22 October in Warsaw, hosted by PKP S.A. and the University of Lodz. Partners came together to review ongoing work and coordinate next steps toward strengthening railway resilience against CBRNe threats.
During the Steering Committee, UIC provided updates on the quality management plan, shared progress on the recruitment of Advisory Board members and confirmed that the communication and dissemination plan is on track for submission by the end of November.
The meeting also advanced the co-development of the CBRNe security concept for railway stations. The University of Lodz shared preliminary findings from a survey conducted among railway stakeholders on CBRNe preparedness, presented the selection of relevant projects for review and introduced the methodology for the upcoming on-site study visits.
This was followed by a presentation from Foundation Safe on the plans for developing a harmonised training curriculum tailored to the rail sector. ENEA then provided an overview of the methodology that will guide the design and delivery of upcoming field training exercises.
After the progress meeting, partners participated in the first study visit. It began at PKP S.A.’s Security Command Center, where PKP S.A. experts shared operational insights from previous CBRNe-related incidents and demonstrated the systems currently in place to ensure security. At Warsaw Central Station, University of Lodz experts led interviews with station administrators, reviewed key documentation and conducted an inspection of the facility.
Looking ahead, each railway partner in the consortium will host a study visit at one of their stations. The findings from these visits will feed directly into the development of practical, evidence-based tools for the sector.
