The CBRNe4rail EU project, coordinated by the UIC Security Department, continued to actively engage end-user and research communities through a series of major international events during the first half of 2026, enabling the project to gain valuable insights on its ongoing work to develop CBRNe security guidelines and training for the rail sector.
During the 47th meeting of the DG MOVE Expert Group on Land Transport Security (LANDSEC), held on 4 February, UIC provided transport ministry representatives with an update on the project’s implementation and progress, with a focus on the completion of the expert study visits performed at five train stations.
CBRNe4rail was also present at two major CBRN events. At CBRN Convergence Canada, held from 13 to 15 April in Toronto, partners from the University of Lodz presented the project and engaged with delegates through an exhibition booth. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and connect with stakeholders from beyond Europe.
At the 7th CBRNE Research and Innovation Conference, held from 19 to 21 May in Arcachon, France, UIC showcased a poster and contributed to the Education & Training session. Discussions with researchers and practitioners provided valuable feedback.
The project also reached the crisis management community through the ISCRAM (Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management) Conference, held from 31 May to 3 June in The Hague, the Netherlands. UIC shared a Work-in-Progress paper during the Threats and Malicious Actors session, outlining the project’s methodology and end-user-centred approach, contributing to discussions on resilience and preparedness in the face of emerging security threats.
Furthermore, the project was represented at the 2nd UNIC Thematic Conference, Institutions in Transition: Justice, Security, and Well-Being in Post-Industrial Cities, held from 17 to 19 June in Istanbul, Türkiye. The University of Lodz presented their abstract “Keeping Cities Moving: Innovative CBRNe Security for Railway Stations,” helping to raise awareness of the project’s approach among researchers working on urban security and resilience.
