We would like to remind you that the upcoming 7th Zero Waste Railways Workshop will be taking place on 17–18 November 2025 at nora® by Interface in Weinheim, Germany.
As mentioned in our previous invitation, the 7th edition, titled “Circularity beyond zero: Going further than sustainability”, will be highly practice oriented, featuring guided tours of the factory and inlay centre at nora® by Interface, a pioneer in circular economy.
Arrival day –17 November
The first day is dedicated to arriving and to informal networking. We will meet in the evening for a relaxed dinner and a screening of Beyond Zero, setting the stage for the main programme.
Main workshop – 18 November (08:45-17:30)
Apart from the factory and inlay centre tour and the sustainability presentation by nora® by Interface, we are excited to announce that the Dutch Railways (NS) will be sharing insights on:
- Ongoing biomimicry projects for circular trains
- The Circular Public Transport Covenant in the Netherlands
- The Future Proof Index Report by Erasmus University Rotterdam, highlighting the social value of rail
There are still two open slots available for brief presentations of best practices on the afternoon of 18 November. Please contact Isabelle de Keyzer (dekeyzer at uic.org) if you are interested. Submissions can come from railway companies, suppliers, or even those active in another industry.
After the best practice presentations, an interactive workshop session has been organised, which will be moderated by Samuel Jones from the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), using the RSSB Sustainability Maturity Tool to assess circularity in rail, identify barriers, and explore regenerative strategies. Breakout discussions will focus on embedding circular thinking into operations, strategy, and supply chains.
