UIC is delighted to be supporting the 8th International Human Factors Rail Conference, which will be held at the Leonardo Royal Hotel in London, on 18 and 19 September 2025.

The conference is being organised by the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) and, in addition to UIC, is being supported by the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF), the Department for Transport (DfT), the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), Network Rail, Newcastle University, the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) and the University of Southampton.

The conference will bring together experts and practitioners in human factors (HF) from around the world and is the conference to hear about state-of-the-art HF in rail research and innovation. It will cover key topical issues such as human factors in design, new technologies, in-cab signalling, traffic management, competence management and safety culture. The last event in 2021 saw 200 delegates come together from around the world, thereby providing a unique networking opportunity.

The call for abstracts is now open on the event website. In addition to presentations on research findings, the conference steering group is particularly keen to hear from practitioners and how they have embedded human and organisational factor (HOF) principles and practices within rail projects and operations. They would also encourage papers to be submitted which demonstrate HOF learning from operational events.

Early-bird registration is open until 6 June 2025. For more information, please visit the RSSB conference website.
