On 18 September 2024, the steering committee for the IMProving Railway sEcurity through awareneSS and training (IMPRESS) project, coordinated by the UIC Security Division and co-funded by the European Union, convened in Paris in a hybrid format for the fourth time. Representatives from all consortium partners (UIC, DHPol, FS, NS, PKP S.A., and SNCB) gathered to review the ongoing project initiatives and provide updates on the work completed.

The partners discussed the development of the global training programme and curriculum, with significant progress being noted in this area. The creation of training tools, including e-learning modules, is ongoing, with the first version of six modules expected to be submitted by the end of September 2024. Additionally, a call for tenders for the IMPRESS awareness raising video is in progress, with a provider to be selected also by the end of the month.

Preparations for implementing the training and assessment framework are also moving forward, with the six training modules expecting to undergo pilot testing by the end of this year.

Dissemination efforts continue, as the third edition of the IMPRESS Review, a media monitoring publication on the topic of rail security carried out by the UIC Security Division, was published in June. The fourth edition will be released soon, covering the period between 1 June to 31 August.

Additionally, the recent academic article entitled “Design of the IMPRESS training for railway staff and awareness program for the general public”, written by the UIC Security Division team and the German Police University, was published in August. It underscores the project’s commitment to innovative training and stakeholder engagement.
