Against the backdrop of the Organising Committee meetings held during the week of 24 – 28 March 2025, UIC and China Railway signed the contract for the forthcoming World Congress on High-Speed Rail in Beijing.

Mr SONG Xiude, President of China Railway (CR), and Mr François DAVENNE, UIC Director General, signed the contract on the morning of 25 March at the headquarters of China Railway, marking an important milestone in the lead up to the congress in July.

A series of Organising Committee sessions were then held from 25 – 26 March with members of CR (China Railway), CARS (China Academy of Railway Sciences) and the UIC congress delegation led by Bertrand Minary, Passenger Director.
Introductory words were given by LIU Dawei (CR), ZANG Xuesong (XARS) and François Davenne (UIC), who acknowledged the effective collaboration in the organisation of this 12th edition of the congress.

The meetings followed the opening of the congress registration system the week before, inviting participants to sign up for the global event which will take place from 8 – 11 July under the theme “Innovation and Development for a Better Life”.

On 27 March, the UIC delegation had the opportunity to visit the China National Convention Center (CNCC), which will host the opening ceremony and the first day of the congress, as well as the 40,000 square metre exhibition area, where industry professionals will be able to showcase the latest developments and technology in the railway industry.
UIC will have a designated stand within the exhibition area, next to that of CARS and CR.

The congress will be a prestigious gathering attracting over 2000 participants from 30 countries, including senior government railway officials, executives from major railway enterprises, and leading technical and management experts in the field of high-speed rail.
Discussions will focus on innovation, future trends and global cooperation on high-speed technology, fostering new opportunities amid the rapid transformation of the global industrial and supply chains.
