The UIC Regional Assembly Europe has appointed Stefano Donnarumma, CEO of FS Italiane Group, as the new Chairman of the Europe Region until the end of 2025. Mr Donnarumma steps into the role following Mr Luigi Ferraris, former CEO of the Group.
Subsequent to a process of consultation by UIC members, the nomination of Mr Donnarumma as Chairman for the Europe region was met with an overwhelming unanimous approval. The new chairmanship was then validated through an electronic vote which was concluded on 31 July.
Mr Donnarumma is committed to continue the work in effectively leading the region through the implementation of its roadmap, and more specifically in addressing the strategic focus areas that have been set out in the regional work programme – notably Digital Twins, FRMCS, Ticketing and Standardisation.
These priorities are in alignment with the overall vision expressed by the newly elected UIC Chairman Alan Beroud in July, and will contribute to help navigate the current challenges to revitalise the railway sector and to develop a safe, efficient and sustainable global railway system.

Biography of Stefano Donnarumma
Stefano Antonio Donnarumma graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Salerno in 1993. His career includes previous roles in the railway and transportation sectors, as well as leadership positions in the multi-utility industry, where he has managed large-scale, publicly listed infrastructure companies. With extensive experience in international fields and institutional relations for publicly traded companies, Mr. Donnarumma excels at building strategic partnerships and navigating complex regulatory landscapes.
