UIC-UNECE partnership: UIC First session of the task force on Rail SECURITY (Geneva, 14 May)

The UNECE Inland Transport Committee decided to launch a specific task force to elaborate recommendations on how could be addressed rail security in its activities

Amongst other representatives the UIC security competence centre was chosen by UNECE to attend this task force on behalf of railway sector.

The, represented by, joined the Task Force, launched by the UNECE Working Party on Rail Transport,

This first session where Marie Hélène Bonneau represented UIC security activities was attended by representatives from Transport ministries (France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, and United Kingdom), agencies of the European Commission (ELSA, ERA), Railways (TCDD, SNCF) and international transport organisation (CER, EIM and UIC).

Following the discussions, participants agreed to work in three main areas
• effective sharing of good practices ,
• regulatory guidelines with advantages and disadvantages of government regulation of rail transport security;
• economics with the existing experience of cost-benefit analysis and other economic models in the rail security domain
with a view to drafting working papers for the next meeting of the Task Force on 1st October 2009.

UIC together proposed to lead jointly with EIM the work in the first area concerning the exchange of good practices and to give a contribution in the second (regulatory guidelines)
