On the 19th and 20th of May, the UIC Expert Group on soil pollution and remediation held its meeting in Utrecht, the Netherlands. This meeting was hosted by the Foundation for the remediation of NS sites (SBNS).
The Expert Group mainly deals with organisational and technical questions regarding soil pollution. One of its focus areas is the exchange of information and experiences between UIC-members. In 2008 the Expert Group finalised a report on the state-of-the-art of railway related soil pollution in Europe. The report is available at UIC website.
The second day of the meetings in Utrecht was devoted to presentations and the exchange of experiences of several remediation techniques. Two sites were visited to experience ongoing remediations which are carried out under the supervision of SBNS.
