On 05 August the Latvian railways celebrated their 90th anniversary in Riga Opera House with a blend of prestige and warm friendship.
This colourful and prestigious event was attended by almost 800 participants. The event was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Latvia, symbolising the importance of LDZ for the Latvian economy and the interconnection of its history with that of the country as a whole.
The celebrations were attended by senior executives from other Baltic railways (Lithuania, Estonia), Central and Eastern Europe (Georgia, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia), central Asia (Kazakhstan) and Finland which, among other common aspects, use the same track gauge.
For UIC, represented by its new Director of Institutional Relations, Vincent Vu, the event provided the opportunity to enhance its understanding of the decisive issues relating to railway operations in Latvia and also to gain further insight into the specific expectations of other members in attendance, thus demonstrating the association’s ambition to be at the service of all railways in this region.
UIC would again like to congratulate LDZ on the occasion of its 90th anniversary and extend its thanks to the organisers of this most successful event for their hospitality.
