UIC has in cooperation with Banedanmark arranged a workshop about The EU Directive 2002/49 (END) Challenges of the European railways - options and obligations, which takes place in Copenhagen 3rd and 4th December 2009.
On the workshop many high profile presentations will be given by the people in charge of noise, among others the European Commission, who has investigate the present challenges met by the MS and how MS have managed the various issues, and the latest EU-wide reported noise data from the mapping 2007 will be shown by the European Environment Agency. At the workshop there will also be a presentation on the latest news on the common European Prediction Method for environmental noise and remarks about how to manage the “equivalence between methods”, and criteria for the priority of the actions will be discussed, among these annual average Lden, night time values Ln and the recent Night Noise Guidelines from WHO.
The timetable for the workshop has been planed so there is time for more radical discussion between the lecturers and the railway. The workshop is therefore a one time opportunity to have more in dept discussion about noise mapping and action planning for the railway.
The outcome of the workshop will be how to facilitate the next round of mapping and action planning by 2012-13.
