Last week on 27th and 28th of January the UIC Environment, Energy and Sustainable Mobility Core Group chaired by Joachim Kettner (DB) met with UNIFE Transport & Environment Group and the CER Environmental Strategy Group in Brussels to discuss in particular the draft “Rail Strategy 2030 and beyond for Environment, Energy and Sustainable Mobility – Europe” (EES Strategy).

Henning Schwarz, Coordinator Sustainable Development at UIC, outlined the ambitious strategic targets and roadmaps for the fields of
• Climate protection
• Energy efficiency
• Exhaust emissions
• Noise emissions

The aim of this initiative is to develop a unified EES Strategy that all parts of the sector could support. Therefore the meetings agreed on a coordinated timetable so that the different rail sector organizations could consult their members and work together to approve the document by summer this year.

It is planned to extend the regional scope of the EES Strategy as well as other issues connected to Sustainability in a second step.
