China: New high speed line opens from Shanghai to Nanjing

On 1 July, the new Shanghai-Nanjing high speed line opened to revenue service. The first two trains departed the stations of Shanghai and Nanjing at 8am. The 301 km line enables CRH trains to operate at speeds of 300 – 350 km/hour, cutting the journey time to 73 minutes. Tickets cost 146 Yuan (17 Euros) in standard class and 233 Yuan (27 Euros) in first class.
