The key phase which will transform the famous Silk Road into a significant railway as the planned Bakou-Tbilissi-Kars line becomes a reality, is being undertaken in Azerbaijan.
The interministerial coordination meeting, attended by the Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yıldırım, took place in Bakou at the beginning of August.
At the meeting, Mr Yıldırım met with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ziya Memedov and the Georgian Minister of regional development and infrastructure, Ramaz Nicolachvili.
Mr Yıldırım stressed that the project’s completion would secure the uninterrupted transport link between China and England and that the project would promote peace and stability in the region.
“Initially 1.5 million passengers and 6.5 million tonnes of cargo will be transported thanks to the project” pointed out the Turkish Transport Minister.
The Turkish, Azerbaijani and Georgian ministers announced the intensification of work in an effort to complete the project as quickly as possible.
