Eastern China’s first intercity high speed railway began operation on 20 September. The new line, covering a total of 135 km, links Nanchang (capital of China’s Jiangxi province) to Jiujiang, also in Jiangxi, with six intermediary stops. At its maximum speed, the train links the two cities in a mere 45 minutes, half the time needed by motorway or express train on a conventional line.
