More than 250 000 passengers have already travelled on the high speed train service (AVE) between Madrid-Castilla La Mancha-Levante. In the month between the launch of AVE high speed services on 19 December 2010 and 19 January 2011, precisely 253 469 passengers travelled on the trains serving the corridor to and from Madrid, Valencia, Cuenca, Requena-Utiel, Albacete, Alicante and Castellón.
The majority of the passengers (132 581) travelled by AVE on the Madrid-Valencia corridor. RENFE runs 15 AVE services a day in each direction between the two cities, 11 of which are direct, enabling journey times of just 1 hour 35 minutes.
