UIC Message of Solidarity

"Dear colleagues from the Japanese railways,

Since Friday 11 March, the whole world has been aware of the tragic events in Japan. Many messages of sympathy and encouragement have been sent to support you in these difficult circumstances for your country, your companies, your customers, your staff and, in some cases, your families.

It seems that the combined effects of the earthquakes and the tsunami and the aftermath in terms of the nuclear risk is making the recovery long and complicated. Beyond all the spontaneous messages may I express, in the name of UIC, one of our strongest values of solidarity from all members around the world. May I say that the international community of railway men and women is sharing your grief and efforts. Please continue to give us news as you have already started to do and do not hesitate to tell us if any assistance beyond words, thoughts and prayers could be valuable to you as UIC is willing, within its capacity, to assist you in any way possible.

With our warmest regards from the UIC family",

Jean-Pierre Loubinoux

UIC Director-General
