The Railway Policy and Management Course for Egypt, held from 30 June to 16 July, ended successfully. For two weeks, trainees learned about the general overview and operation skills of Korea’s advanced railways and its development status in order to understand the Korean railroad system as a whole. A general outline of the training program, not including the lectures, is presented below:
Technical visit venue and participatory curricula:
- Goyang KTX depot
- Guro traffic control center
- Country report
- Team project
- KTX riding experience
The country report session covered the operation status and action plan of Egyptian Railways. Three teams gave their presentations in detail on how to resolve the current situation of ENR (Egyptian National Railways). Team C received the country report award with the presentation ’The lack of rail market share in domestic container transportation in Egypt’.
Mr Ashraf el Sebaei Ameen gave a presentation focusing on the ICD (Inland Container Depot) construction plan to increase market share in the railway logistics sector to overcome the current situation in which ENR transports containers only between the sea ports while ENR does not transport local containers within the country.
The country report awardee team was decided through assessment by KORAIL experts from each job sector who participate in the team project advisory committee.
Delivering training to Egypt in the African region, IRaTCA proved to be active beyond Asia. This course in particular is held as a part of yearly plan, from 2011 to 2012, dedicated to Egyptian Railway colleagues and co-hosted by KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency).
The trainees were satisfied with the programs, featuring distinguished and in-depth curricula compared to those of last year.
Mr Sim Hyeog-Yun, Vice-President of KORAIL, encouraged the participants by participating in the certificate award ceremony. In his address he stressed the importance in achieving mutual cooperation between the two countries and in building a human network through this program. KORAIL will also try to do its best to take the initiative in the process.
On behalf of the trainees, Mr Hussein Rashidy Mohamed delivered thanks to the Korean people, saying he hoped that cooperation would extend to the Korean people and that KORAIL would be a partner in all railway fields.
