German Rail’s international subsidiary, DB Arriva, has acquired British operator Grand Central Railway for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition adds to Arriva’s existing portfolio of open-access transport operations in Great Britain.
Grand Central currently offers services from London to the northern cities of Bradford, Halifax and Sunderland, serving 700,000 passengers per year. Arriva’s UK Trains division already includes the CrossCountry, Arriva Trains Wales, and Chiltern Railways franchises, and concessions to operate the Tyne and Wear Metro, and as a joint venture, London Overground Rail Operations (LOROL).
