During a trip to Washington, UIC Director-General Jean-Pierre Loubinoux took part in a meeting with key UIC North American members. The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss a number of points of interest and potential developments, both in the areas of benchmarking for proximity operators and relaying information on the achievements of American operators via UIC’s websites, as well as the development of potential training topics and participation in the 8th World High Speed Congress in July.
On this last point, a special day in Washington (“Washington Day”) will be hosted for the main members (CEOs and high speed operators around the world) by UIC, together with its key partner APTA and the other participants in the project team – notably AMTRAK, AAR, USHSR and AASHTO – in the run-up to the official opening of the 8th World High Speed Congress.
At the same time, a coordination meeting was led by the World Bank with representatives of the Transport Division to discuss various projects and joint conferences in the future.
Finally, a meeting was organised with the UIC partners on the California High Speed Committee to develop support at the highest level of UIC for this Californian project. This will shortly be the subject of a technical agreement involving the participation of UIC member experts, operators and high speed services across the world.
