Italian railway company Ferrovie Italiane dello Stato (FS) plans to contribute to the development of the Congo-Ocean Railway (COR) through training railway workers. Thus, on 23 February, the Republic of Congo and Italy signed a memorandum of understanding in Rome for infrastructure projects.
During a hearing with various Italian economic operators, CEO of FS Mauro Moretti assured the Congolese Delegate-General for Major Projects, Jean-Jacques Bouya, of the company’s support towards the COR. “It is important for us to link our action to development and change. We realise that training is important in railway companies that require specific qualifications”, he explained.
The memorandum, signed on the Italian side by Deputy Transport Minister Mario Ciaccia, provides for measures to encourage Italian railway companies to be involved in COR infrastructure development programmes and to work towards the implementation of new technologies and sustainable development.
