Through the development of an extensive programme, Deutsche Bahn wishes to define the next steps to barrier-free travel. This second programme on barrier-free travel, presented on 27 April by the Chief Executive of Deutsche Bahn Dr Rüdiger Grube in the company of the Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Transport Mr Enak Ferlemann, and representatives of disabled people or people with reduced mobility, follows on from the initial programme presented in 2005.
As stated by DB Chief Executive Dr Rüdiger Grube in Berlin, this second programme is set to apply until 2015. He reiterated: “we have already made decisive progress towards achieving barrier-free rail travel. We now need to undertake new efforts in order to offer our disabled passengers independent mobility so that they can make maximum use of our stations and trains".
